Chitate Village and Its Unique Significance

Each week, we will invite you to join us in exploring one of the 30 villages in Ward 8, Murewa where Rozaria Memorial Trust has programmes on HIV and domestic violence. We invite you to imagine yourself as a part of this village.

Chitate Village is one of the most inaccessible places by road in Ward 8 Murewa. The two feeder roads from Murewa Centre to Mukarakate tha pass through this village are all in very bad shape, that no one really dares to drive along this route. It has been many years since a bus has been in this road. This is a villages surrounded by some hills and mountains. Great scenery. It’s almost 10 kilometers from the nearest main road “pazvibhodi“, along the Harare Nyamapanda road on the 109 km peg. Girls and women dare not walk the stretch along especially at night.

Chitate village is has a local primary school, which provides educational services for children in the nearby villages. You always find this bright-eyed little ones running to school early in the morning, hoping one day to know the life beyond the mountains, to climb the bus and go to Harare or visit some far way relative. Good hopes and dreams.  Continue reading

The domestic violence outreach campaigns in Murewa saw more involvement of men in the community dialogues. Conducted in the cool shades of musasa trees, the Rozaria Memorial Trust teams shared information about the Zimbabwe Domestic Violence Act.

Together with the community, men and women they explored, discussed and debated on the role of culture. Wife battering, child marriage, verbal abuse are some of the issues topical in such meetings.
