Community Based ART Literacy Critical For Children Living with HIV

Murewa, Zimbabwe: 1 July 2010

Below is a brief analysis of a baseline survey on Children ART Literacy and pediatric treatment carried out in ward 8 and 17 of Murewa district, Zimbabwe. The survey was undertaken in June, 2010. Participants in the survey were drawn from a sample of 8 Support Groups, and including children living with HIV and AIDS, primary and secondary care-givers. Continue reading

Zimbabwe Minister of Health Stresses Maternal Health on Visit to Geneva

The Minister of Health and Child Welfare, Dr Henry Madzorera held a dialogue and information sharing with ecumenical organisations on 21 May 2010, in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting held at the Ecumenical Centre was attended by the leadership of the World YWCA, the Lutheran World Federation, ACT Alliance, World Council of Churches and the World Aliance of Reformed Churches.

The Zimbabwe delegation which included the Permanent Secretary in the same Ministry highlighted the efforts by the Zimbabwe Inclusive government in revitalising health, the focus on infrastructure, human resources and treatment access. Partnership with faith organisations was affirmed as vital including the networks of community based organisations which are in daily contact with communities especially mothers and children. Celebrating Our Supportive Village Headmen – VaChipunza and VaMarumisa

Well, we are in 30 villages in Murewa. Each village is led by a village headman. These are influential individuals within the community, culturally, socially and administratively.

Today we celebrate our two village head, Va Ernest Chipunza of Magaya Village (ward 8) and Va Godfrey Marumisa, of Marumisa Village (ward 17). They both knew the late Mbuya Rozaria during her life time, since she was born in Marumisa and married across Nyadire river and lived in Magaya village! Continue reading
